Job Description

We are looking for a passionate and forward-thinking Data Governance Risk Assessment Manager with a strong legal background and the ability to think outside the box with a business perspective. The ideal candidate will ensure alignment between Legal and Data Governance and be responsible for managing requests, conducting legal assessments, and partnering with legal for compliance issues. This individual will review agreements and licensed data, work closely with R&D stakeholders to understand and unlock legal requirements, and engage effectively with scientists to grasp their objectives. They will possess a deep understanding of global compliance requirements, particularly around data anonymization, and be familiar with the pre-clinical environment.

Additionally, the candidate should have experience in reviewing ICF protocols and licensing agreements and working with an R&D function. Familiarity with the System Life Cycle (SLC) is essential. While a law degree or equivalent legal experience is preferred, it is not absolutely necessary. The ideal candidate must be process-oriented with the capability to think long-term and build a legacy within a compliance/legal environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and process the data governance risk assessment in accordance with relevant policies.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential data governance risks and vulnerabilities, ensuring compliance with data protection laws such as GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA.
  • Act as a business partner to R&D; provide guidance and support to business units on data governance risk management best practices, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Legal, IR, BTS, Compliance, to gather and analyze data governance risk information.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing data governance controls and recommend improvements to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develop new strategies and initiatives to solve problems at scale; standardize the process as much as possible.
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and action plans to address identified risks, ensuring legal compliance and adherence to industry best practices.
  • Stay updated with changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards emerging risks related to data governance, and ensure timely adjustments to risk assessment processes.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to increase awareness and understanding of data governance risks and requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including legal counsel and regulatory bodies, to ensure alignment of data governance risk management efforts with legal obligations.
  • Review according to our internal guidance ICFs, Licensed Agreement and Protocol.


Qualifications

  • 7+ years of direct experience in Pharma or Research and Development with focus on supporting legal, governance, risk and or compliance activities
  • Juris Doctor or bachelor's degree in related field; Legal degree preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the Biopharmaceutical Industry's Research and Development environment, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • The ability to function and problem solve independently
  • Extremely organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and drive strategic projects to successful delivery
  • Understanding of IT systems (SLC) and their connection to data collection and processing
  • Business partnering and collaboration skills, adept at establishing effective working relationships, both within and between departments.
  • Comfortable working in a global, matrixed organization
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver key initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
