Clinical Informatics

The UT Southwestern Clinical Informatics Center is the leader in developing, implementing, and evaluating effective Clinical Informatics solutions for those in health care and the people/patients that they serve andin educating future clinicalinformaticians. The Clinical Informatics Center leverages the knowledge from research and experience in biomedical informatics, data sciences, social sciences, clinical sciences and other domains for the generation of informatics-based products or services to improve quality and safety, the efficiency of patient care, and the health of people in general.

Job Summary

Clinical Informatics is looking for a Data Scientist I to work with clinicians and clinical investigators to leverage clinical data sources to develop advanced dashboard utilizing machine learning algorithms. This position will provide analysis and develop machine learning algorithms and software for clinical informatics problems. The Data Scientist I impacts data acquisition, management, and analysis in basic, translational, and clinical research, including clinical trials. This position is Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm with occasional need for evening and weekend hours and travel to training, events, and conferences.

Preferred Experience and Skills
  • Master's degree in Informatics
  • Experience with electronic health record systems
  • Experience with process analysis
  • Experience with business intelligence analytics
  • Working knowledge of SQL
Experience and Education
  • M.S. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, (Bio)mathematics, (Bio)statistics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field OR B.S. with demonstrated experience in broadly defined areas of bioinformatics.
  • 0 - 2 years post-graduation experience in data analysis and/or scientific software development.
Job Duties
  • Analyzes and develops formalisms, algorithms and software for applications in biomedical research.
  • Develops and maintains software tools and infrastructure for resolving specific problems.
  • Assists in the development, testing and revision of programs in a team with diverse bioinformatics expertise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
