The Job Opportunity and Duties...
  • Requires extensive knowledge of database design and business intelligence/data warehousing and receives general direction
  • Conducts performance tuning and system configuration on multiple DBMS platforms
  • Collaborates with IT development staff to design DBMS architecture throughout the lifecycle of applications
  • Designs standards for the exchange of data between systems, including data security models
  • Understands business intelligence concepts
  • Develops standards and best practices
  • Creates documentation of installation procedures, monitoring procedures, security policies, configuration changes, migration procedures and best practices for development teams
  • Works with State Chief Information Security Officer to implement and enforce state and Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections security standards. Designs and plans Azure and on-premises Database Management System (DBMS) architecture
  • Implements and configures Azure and on-premises DBMS solutions
  • Designs and plans High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions including hardware selection and recommendations
  • Implements and configures HA/DR solutions
  • Configures and implements replication
  • Monitors and tunes DBMS for high performance
  • Works with Information Technology (IT) Architecture staff, Chief Information Officer and/or IT Managers to design solutions that meet agency requirements; assists analysis of the solution design's business case
  • Authors portions of the solution business case
  • Issues Tier III resolution
  • Develops database strategies to support business needs
  • Applies principles, theories, practices and techniques of project planning
  • Plans and conducts formal mentorship activities for peers and/or lower-level staff via verbal instruction or technical documentation
  • Serves as a member of a Disaster Recovery/Business Resumption Team, Incident Response Team, or similar DRC response team which may include the conduct of operations on a 24/7 basis at remote locations, as assigned

Qualifications

60 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting.

-Or completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems; 42 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems; 36 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting.
