Job Description:


The Dean of Students/Director of Residence Life plays a vital role in overseeing the comprehensive management of residence life, student conduct, and student engagement programs. This position is essential for creating a supportive and inclusive residential community that promotes the academic and personal growth of students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Residence Life (Housing & Education)
  • Manage the operation of multiple residence areas, including oversight of hall opening and closing procedures, housing assignments, and emergency preparedness. Collaborate with various departments, such as Maintenance & Facilities, Campus Police, Accessibility Services, Student Accounts, Dining Services, and Health & Counseling Services.
  • Hire, train, and supervise a team of professional and student staff, including live-in staff members and Resident Advisors.
  • Work closely with the AVP of Academic Affairs and Student Life to develop and implement the philosophy, vision, and strategic plan for the Student Life program. Serve as the primary designee in the AVP's absence on college-wide committees and initiatives.
  • Oversee the development and assessment of departmental programming models, living learning communities, and special interest housing, aiming to support student developmental growth and academic success.
Student Conduct
  • Manage the AIC Student Conduct Process
  • Interpret College and residence hall policies and conduct meetings for alleged policy violations. Ensure a consistent, accurate, and fair conduct process through strategic oversight and assessment.
  • Participate in an "on-call" rotation, providing emergency response support and acting as a second-level resource for live-in staff on duty.
  • Participate in Title IX cases as needed
Student Engagement/Campus Recreation/Student Life Supervision
  • Supervise the creation and implementation of a diverse range of co-curricular student engagement activities that are inclusive and equitable. Contribute to major College events such as New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, Homecoming, and Spring Weekend.
  • Advise Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), providing support for event planning, budget oversight, and other logistical needs.
Other Responsibilities
  • Perform additional duties as required, including participating in committee assignments and supporting student recruitment and retention efforts as deemed necessary by the supervisor.


Requirements:


Required Degree(s): Master's Degree

Required Field of Expertise: Minimum of 3 years of professional experience

Preferred Field of Expertise: Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel Administration, Student Affairs Administration, or similar field. Experience in Student Affairs at a college or university is highly desirable.

Preferred Training/Certifications: Experience using Maxient and The Housing Director systems is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Experience with college housing operations, including managing budgets, housing assignments, and facilities.
  • Proficiency in using software applications and databases, particularly Maxient, The Housing Director, or Jenzabar. Ability to analyze data using Excel is beneficial.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, organization, and administrative skills. Must be a self-directed team player.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Knowledge of issues related to residential living and student development theory.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends in a demanding environment.
  • Previous supervisory experience in Residence Life or Student Affairs.
