Shift: M-F 8.30 to 5.00 EST

Department: Oral Diagnosis

Position Objective:

This position will support clinical operations of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide chair-side dental assistance and assist with patient seating and clinic flow. Review patient schedule to determine efficient use of personnel time. Take and develop radiographs. Take and pour diagnostic models, bite registration. Provide proper sterilized instruments.
  • Check equipment to ensure that it is in good working order. Report/record all repair orders.
  • Monitor all dental and office supplies usage. Prepare pre-requisition to re-order materials and supplies as needed with assistance of Clinic Manager and Chair.
  • Responsible for cleanliness/readiness of the clinic. Prepare clinic for the day's schedule. After assisting, clean cubicles as needed. Stock supplies in clinic/cubicles as needed.
  • Prepare instruments for sterilization.
  • Mix dental materials that are needed on a case-by-case basis.


  • Nonessential Functions:

  • Make appointments, answer patient calls and make confirming patient calls.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Contacts:

    Department: Dispensary staff, receptionists, graduate department specialty clinics and clinical instructors on a daily basis; Department Chair and faculty.

    University: Not applicable

    External: All patients on a clinic daily basis. Students: Graduate students as it relates to daily patient flow.

    Qualifications:
    • Experience: A minimum 3 months to 1 year of dental assisting experience required.
    • Education/Licensing: High school diploma. Dental Assistant certification. Current radiology license. Annual CPR certification.


    Required Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of computer software.
  • Basic knowledge of insurance codes and forms.


  • Working Conditions:
    • This work is performed in a clinical setting and requires general knowledge of chemicals, blood borne pathogens, OSHA requirements, and lab safety.
