Brief Description of Duties: Dental Hygienists are licensed to practice dental hygiene in New York State and perform a wide variety of dental services in accordance with Article 133 of the Education Law. Positions assist dentists in their practice by performing preventive and therapeutic treatment procedures and by instructing individuals in oral self-care techniques. Dental Hygienists work under the supervision of a licensed dentist; performs duties in the areas of preventive and therapeutic treatment and the instruction of individuals in oral self-care techniques. Duties to include the following:
Special Notes: This is a part-time position, 28.5 hours per week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference.
The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.

- Perform dental services under the supervision of a licensed dentist.
- Take medical history and chart dental caries.
- Place and expose diagnostic dental X-ray films
- Remove deposits, growths, and stains from the exposed surfaces of the teeth and apply topical agents for dental treatment.
- Remove cement, place or remove rubber dam, remove sutures, and place matrix bands.
- Perform topical medication, fluoride, and anesthetic applications.
- Polish teeth, including existing restorations.
- Take impressions for study casts.
- Place and remove temporary restorations.
- Teach proper hygiene techniques for teeth and gums and develop individual at-home oral hygiene programs.
- Patient recall.
- New patient screenings
- May perform all services properly performed by a Dental Assistant.
- Assist in Radiology and screening process.
- May assist in Dispensary and with recall list.
- May rotate on the Outreach Mobile Dental Clinic and Outreach Program, as needed..
