Dietary Team Leader - Part Time - Days vary

Education:

Acceptable score on the Team Leader test.

Experience:

Minimum of one year experience in hospital food service.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepares salads and desserts for patients, cafeteria and special functions.
  • Follows package instructions, recipes and uses timers.
  • Insures high quality results (looks and tastes good and not over cooked).
  • Tries new recipes for both salads and desserts.
  • Practices good sanitation when working with food.
  • Insures that food is covered, labeled, dated, stored properly and not wasted.
  • Insures that hot food is served hot and cold food is served cold.
  • Follows patient menu when preparing salads and desserts.
  • Insures that salads and desserts are prepared and served according to diet order (i.e. low sodium, diabetic, renal, etc.).
  • Checks all trays on patient tray line for overall accuracy and appearance.
  • Insures that patient tray line starts on time and runs smoothly.
  • Insures the accuracy and sanitary preparation of special tube feedings, nutritional supplements and infant formulas.
  • Insures that cafeteria is ready and opens on time.
  • Insures that cafeteria is properly stocked according to cafeteria checklist and signs for special items are displayed.
  • Insures that necessary condiments are ready before opening.
  • Oversees the serving of food and insures that counters are kept clean and uncluttered.
  • Insures that serving line is not left unattended.
  • Operates cash register and balances drawer.
  • Closes cafeteria and leaves clean for next meal.
  • Deposits money from cafeteria sales with business office cashier.
  • Runs meal census report before breakfast (all meals in absence of diet clerk), updates diet orders, computer and maintains patient cardexes.
  • Completes meal count sheet and lists special items needed.
  • Completes patient tray cards and gets cards to tray line timely.
  • Prepares between meal nourishment labels and gets labels to production area in a timely manner.
  • Answers telephone and maintains accurate message log regarding request for patients.
  • Maintains accurate records of physician's charges in cafeteria.
  • Records temperatures of refrigerators and freezer daily.
  • Records daily meal counts for patients and cafeteria.
  • Insures that committee charge receipts are turned in to Diet Clerk promptly.
  • Completes duties on Team Leader weekly cleaning schedule:
    • Team Leader's refrigerator
    • Team Leader's general work area and window sills.
    • Reach-in freezer.
    • Cafeteria serving line and counters.
  • Insures that work areas are left clean before breaks and at end of shift.
  • Insures that floors are swept and spot-mopped in absence of Stock Clerk.
  • Insures communication within the department and with department management.
  • Insures that staff is productively occupied, break and lunch periods are taken timely.
  • Completes daily checklist at end of shift to insure that all task are finished.
  • In absence of department managers, is responsible for:
    • General operation and staffing of the department
    • Approves menu substitutions
    • Handles patient related problems when requested by nursing or physician
    • Checks incoming food and supplies against purchase order
  • Organizes daily routine to insure all work is completed on time.
  • Insures routine task are completed without overtime.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

* Have near normal hearing - able to hear alarms/telephone/normal speaking voice/ webinars

* Have near normal vision - clarity of vision (both near and far) either corrected on non-corrected, ability to distinguish colors

* Have good manual dexterity and eye-hand-foot coordination

* Standing - continuously within the shift (67-100%)

* Walking - continuously within the shift (67-100%)

* Climbing - occasionally within the shift (1-33%)

* Bending/stooping - frequently within the shift (34-66%)

*Twist at the waist - occasionally with the shift (1-33%)

*Pushing/pulling - frequently within the shift (34-66%)

* Lift/carry - 20lbs with assistance - occasionally within the shift (1-33%)

* Reaching above the shoulders - frequently within the shift (34-67%)

* Lift/carry - 50lbs with assistance - occasionally within the shift (1-33%).
