Job Summary Under the direction of the Nutrition and Dietary Supervisor 2, this position is responsible for processing and verifying diet orders, ensuring therapeutic accuracy based on the diet order, including infant and tube feeding formulas and fortified breast milk orders. This position modifies patient menus, generates cost reports, production sheets, forecast reports and tallies. This position will work in the diet office, diet kitchen, breastmilk storage rooms, and on nursing units, including direct contact with patients to identify food service-related concerns. This position will assist in identifying patients with nutritional concerns when interviewing patients for daily and next day menu choices, food preferences and food allergy information, monitoring tolerance of diet and nourishments, and providing basic diet information within limits of the diet order. This position will incorporate the patient's food requests into the patient's file in Computrition and may assist in entering the patient menu choices and all food preferences. Responsible in providing and promoting high quality and personalized customer service. This position will obtain and honor food choices and preferences, deliver meals and snacks in a timely manner. Incumbent is responsible for explaining basic nutrition education to patients. Accurately follows appropriate patient identification procedures and diet orders. Utilizes current food service ordering software and technology with proficiency. Utilizing pars set forth by supervisor, determine if additional product is needed to maintain adequate floor stocks. Retrieve product or deliveries from remote location. Independently manages time with the utmost efficiency and responds promptly to patient requests. Responsible for handling all concerns related to meal service, verifying accuracy of orders, quality of presentation, and the provision of solutions through service recovery. This position is responsible for understanding the precision in measuring and weighing in standard and metric systems, a scale/balance, and graduated cylinders and other equipment needed to prepare infant and adult enteral formulas, fortified expressed breast milk, nourishments, ketogenic and modified textured diets. This position will be responsible to maintain storage, rotation, and intake documentation of expressed and donor breast milk. This position will be responsible for maintaining supplies and ordering donor breast milk. This position is also responsible for cleaning and sanitizing all equipment and working areas. This position works collaboratively with the Dietitians, Diet Technicians, Food Service Staff, Diet Office Staff and Nursing Staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in food service environment
  • Customer service experience to assist patients and cooperate with other staff members and convey a helpful, positive attitude. Knowledge of and ability to work with standard and metric units of measurement
  • Experience with reading recipes, food ingredient labels and allergen labels.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with standard and metric units of measurement. Ability to communicate clearly (oral and written), respond in a timely manner, listen attentively. Interpersonal skills to interact effectively in person, in writing and on the telephone with patients and a diverse range of people at various departments in the healthcare system. Ability to utilize computers, iPad or tablets and software, including emails and patient electronic health records.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree, bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience as Dietetic Assistant in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of food service ordering/operation management software.
  • Experience and knowledge of diet restrictions, therapeutic diets, food allergies, nutrient analysis of food items and recipes.
  • Ability to use expertise to precept and evaluate undergraduate nutrition students. Be an advocate of nutrition through informal teaching to medical students, interns, residents and nurses.

Work Environment
