Job Duties

Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is seeking a creative storyteller, with professional-level camera, editing, and motion graphics skills and capabilities, to produce short-form videos from ideation to final production. The candidate must possess strong project management and multi-tasking abilities, excellent visual, verbal and written skills, and must have an eye for detail. The incumbent will be a strategic contributor within the Public Relations team, and will work to develop creative visuals to support assigned projects and initiatives.

This position will:

• Create high-quality video and photo content, on location, in support of VRS services, policies and initiatives, including special agency events
• Illustrate concepts using a blend of b-roll, stock and animations
• Adhere to accessibility guidelines, VRS brand and visual styles
• Analyze existing content and identify video stories (e.g., repurposing article content, documentary-style profiles, how-to videos, and reading scripts)
• Initiate ideas for videos and digital communication
• Write and edit scripts
• Catalog, tag and archive photos and videos in VRS' digital asset management system
• Upload and tag content to VRS online channels
• Manage platforms and subscriptions for video production, photography, stock art and music
• Maintain and securely store video production and photography equipment
• Provide responsive service to internal stakeholders and to the members, retirees and employers VRS serves

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, design, fine arts, technology or closely related field, required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
• Valid Virginia Driver's License, and ability to travel to in-state locations
• Three years of demonstrated experience in visual communications
• Demonstrated proficiency in video production, including filming, professional interviewing, editing, script writing and storyboarding
• Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud suite
• Previous experience in web, email, social media and/or other digital communications

Additional Considerations

• Creative portfolio or link of sample work, preferred
• Previous experience in public relations and communications, preferred
• Previous experience utilizing screen capturing software, preferred

Currently, this position has a hybrid work schedule which means working in the office two days (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) and working remotely (Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays) three days a week. The selected candidate must be able to work in the office any day of the week as required by the manager.
