The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is accepting applications for the position of Director, Business Development. This is a career, full-time position with a targeted salary range of $100,000 - $110,000/year with full health benefits and membership in the UC Retirement Plan. Bring your drive for fundraising, abilities to engage and strong communication skills to join us as the Director, Business Development, UCLA Intercollegiate Athletics Development Department. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation of new donors to UCLA Athletics. You will assess and articulate goals and priorities for increasing support for Athletics. The primary focus of this position is discovery, cultivation and solicitation of UCLA-affiliated individuals, corporations and foundations that have not previously supported UCLA Athletics. You will work collaboratively with Athletics Development Officers to determine and establish long and short-term goal objectives for major gifts, planned gifts, endowments, special projects, capital projects, and high-level annual fund gifts in Los Angeles area and the across the United States. As the Director, Business Development you will work with individuals and organizations to identify potential supporters for Athletics and develop strategies to engage those individuals, corporations, and foundations. You will regularly interact with prospects and donors through personal meetings, attendance at special events and UCLA athletic competitions, telephone conversations and correspondence. All applicants should demonstrate the following abilities: Bachelor's degree, master's degree preferred; Minimum of five years of annual giving or fundraising experience preferably in intercollegiate athletic fundraising, including a strong documented record of gifts solicited and/or prior experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development; Experience in making cold-calls and resilience to withstand rejection; Well-developed interpersonal and strong team-building skills, to create and sustain liaisons with coaches, staff, campus development colleagues, faculty, and administrators to develop effective cultivation and solicitation strategies; Demonstrated working knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fund raising for intercollegiate athletics or environment of equivalent complexity with the ability to conceptualize and implement broad ranging and specific individual identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies; Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to write and edit reports, business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgement, proposals and other cultivation and solicitation materials; Ability to prepare clear and compelling materials for fundraising events, initiatives and programs; Strong oral communication skills to collect and convey information with accuracy, diplomacy and tact; ability to persuasively express the mission of the university and the fundraising goals of the campus, especially as they relate to UCLA and specifically to intercollegiate athletics; Detail-oriented with ability to take initiative, work independently and accept responsibility; adept at setting priorities and managing work flow to fulfill objectives and meet goals according to deadlines in a high-paced work environment under minimal supervision; Knowledge of and the ability to comply with PAC-12/Big Ten Conference and NCAA rules and regulations; Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor files and information; impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues; Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications as well as familiarity with other database, spreadsheet, scheduling and email applications; willingness to learn new programs and applications in a prompt and efficient manner; Demonstrated proficiency in Blackbaud CRM or equivalent development database and the use of databases to generate reports is preferred; Ability to travel for events; Ability to work some nights and weekend as needed.
