Job Summary/Basic Functions
The director will lead a team of career development professionals in the Center for Career and Professional Development.
The director is responsible for the oversight and management of the University's Center for Career and Professional Development (Career Center) which serves students across the university's three colleges. The director of the UMW Center for Career and Professional Development will be a transformational leader with experience leading and managing teams. This leader will engage the Center's staff in making the process of finding and securing a meaningful internship or career a central component of the student experience. A central aspect of this role will be to increase the visibility and reputation of the Career Center among current and prospective students, parents, faculty, and staff. This role will be expected to collect and use data for decision making and to show results of efforts toward student career outcomes.
This role will be expected to collaborate with university administration across several divisions (e.g. alumni relations, advancement, Continuing and Professional studies, and college deans) to increase the use and efficacy of the services offered through the Center. The director will be responsible for implementing the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) which is focused on helping students know and understand ten established career readiness competencies aligned with those produced by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). The director will report to the Associate Provost for Career and Workforce within Academic Affairs.
Required Experience:
The ideal candidate will have experience leading a team of professional staff within a higher education setting. The director will have the ability to effectively listen and communicate with staff at all levels and in all departments across the organization. An ability to create programs and manage them to completion is a must. The director will have demonstrated experience translating strategy into action.
