POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Clinical Patient Safety Officer is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing and enhancing patient safety initiatives across the Health First IDN. Reporting directly to the Chief Clinical Officer/Chief Nursing Officer, the Director will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing strategies to prevent medical errors, reduce adverse events, and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.

The Director, Clinical Patient Safety Officer is responsible for organizing, planning and implementing strategies to ensure patient safety and quality of care in accordance with the Health First mission.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES
- Develop, implement, and oversee the Clinical Patient Safety Program at Health First, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Guide and support facility-wide process improvements to eliminate medical errors and other factors contributing to unintended adverse patient outcomes.
- Foster an environment of open communication and learning, managing behavioral choices related to patient safety through initiatives such as Patient Safety Rounds, Event Response, and Disclosure.
- Initiate and supervise the development of a comprehensive patient safety improvement program, including data analysis and trend identification.
- Coordinate annual reviews of the patient safety plan and program.
- Provide quarterly patient safety reports to the Board Quality and Quality and Safety Councils, offering insights and recommendations for enhancement.
- Develop performance improvement and patient safety annual reports for the Board of Trustees and Board Quality, highlighting achievements and areas for growth.
- Champion the completion of Culture of Safety Surveys and facilitate analysis of results, guiding the development of data-driven action plans to achieve targeted outcomes.
- Deliver ongoing education to leaders, clinicians, and staff on safety science principles, effective communication, and sustaining awareness/alertness to support patient safety initiatives.
- Co-chair the IDN Patient Safety Committee, collaborating with stakeholders to drive system-wide improvements and standardization.
- Serve as the Clinical Patient Safety Officer, providing strategic leadership and oversight to ensure alignment of patient safety efforts across the organization.

- Lead change through effective communication, explaining the connection and value to the organization, creating stronger buy-in and urgency, while understanding impact to the team to obtain commitment.
- Demonstrate openness to hearing diverse ideas and thoughts; create a sense of inclusivity; and encourage collaboration across teams to help break down silos to meet the team's and organization's goals.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Master's degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
- Work Experience: 5 years of nursing experience and 3 years of experience in a position dedicated to Patient Safety, Risk, or Quality. Clinical education experience responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of clinical education programs.
- Licensure: RN with current Florida licensure.
- Certification: Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) required; if not already CPPS, must complete CPPS certification within 12 months.
- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and electronic health record systems.
- Ability to exercise excellent judgment in difficult situations.
- Ability to immediately assess potential liable situations and react appropriately.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Master's degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
- Work Experience: Nursing Leadership Experience.
- Licensure: Registered Nurse with current Florida licensure.
- Certification: Certified Professional in Patient Safety certification within 12 months.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to drive within Brevard County frequently.
- Able to perform walking rounds to all areas of hospital and other locations within the system.
- Able to stand, walk, bend and stoop for up to 8 hours, generally with short breaks.
- Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform computer tasks.
- Able to lift 25 pounds unassisted.
