Position Purpose:

The Director Data Platform is responsible for developing and governing Veolia's data and information strategy in order to drive business decisions and growth. This role will develop data procedures and policies, and work closely with various departments to collect, prepare, organize, protect, and analyze data assets while ensuring that the company meets industry best practices.

The role oversees the Data Platform team with Data Steward, Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, Data Governance, and Data Science. Duties will include leading interdisciplinary teams, improving and streamlining data and systems within the company, and driving innovation.

The candidate shall have a proven track record in data management, data science, leadership, and information technology systems and tools. A strong background in IT, business, and mathematics is advantageous.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Data Strategy
  • Play an analytical role to define and drive analytics and business intelligence initiatives in the Data Platform team. Design appropriate analytical models necessary to support use cases and leverage the power of predictive insights and analytics.
  • Work towards enabling enhanced business performance by tapping into new and innovative sources of data. In this capacity, s/he is tasked with providing the data analytics infrastructure that supports and achieves operational and strategic business goals and targets. Play a leading strategic role where s/he defines and oversees how the business captures, maintains, and applies data and information to support key business processes. S/He establishes the strategic direction for building the business's data management program, technology stack, and optimizes how the business uses data both internally and externally.
  • Task with developing, coordinating, and implementing strategies that support business development plans to capture new opportunities. In this capacity, s/he acts as a thought leader defining the business's data strategy and data roadmap.
  • Determine how best to leverage data assets that support the business's strategy. S/He leads in creating and sustaining a vibrant data organization, technologies, processes, and policies within the department and across the business.

Data Governance
  • Play a highly collaborative role and in this position, s/he will oversee cross-functional data governance while simultaneously ensuring adoption and adherence to data quality and process governance in the relevant collaborating departments.
  • Ensure data is being used according to relevant regulation and best practices.
  • Help lines of business acquire the data they need and use it effectively.
  • Define standards to be used in all aspects of data management, including data and technology architecture, data modeling, functional objects, data supply chain and integration.

Team Management
  • Manage & Coordinate team of Data Steward, Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, Data Governance & Data Science.
  • Structure, prioritize flows of Data projects & priorities for the differents streams.
  • Report to CTO for Veolia North America.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:
  • At a minimum, a bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field, is required. An MBA or Master's Degree in a related field is an advantage.
  • 5 years' experience in a IT management role preferred.
  • 2+ years performing with production environments in a DevOps culture managing code composed of multi-developer teams, following industry best practices.
  • Strong experience with data modeling.
  • Experience deploying and running services in Google Cloud with Big Query.
  • Experience with Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Experience with Data Modeling and efficient data supply chains.
  • Strong knowledge and expertise regarding Data Governance.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Project management skills.

  • Knowledge of relevant applications, big data solutions, and tools.
  • Knowledge of agile practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Highly organized with inclination to detailed planning and directing activities.
  • Ability to contribute to multiple projects and initiatives each with an independent set of timelines and priorities.
  • High emotional intelligence.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional or Associate) and/or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect or Google Cloud Data Engineer is a plus.
  • Big Query experience.
  • GitLab experience.
  • DevOps experience.

Physical Requirements:
  • Standard VNA workplace policy.
  • Some travel may be required.
