JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Legal Affairs department, the Director, Legal & Business Affairs provides legal support for Universal Orlando Resort's theme park operations, including drafting, negotiating and interpreting complex commercial and service contracts and, equipment leases, and other legal documents, and managing compliance requirements, contractual obligations, and dispute resolution.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Accountable for drafting, reviewing, interpreting and negotiating scopes of work, contracts, and a range of other types of service agreements in connection with Universal Orlando Resort's theme park operations.
  • Responsible for the drafting, review, interpretation, and negotiation of equipment leases and lease schedules with a range of equipment leasing companies.
  • Lead and train non-attorney contract professionals and administrative staff. Advise contract representatives regarding contract preparation and negotiation.
  • Provide legal research and general legal advice and counsel to business units as needed, inclusive of advice to clients regarding contract language and contract risk, preparing vendor notices of noncompliance, negotiating resolution of disputes with vendors and/or contractors, and preparation of settlement agreements and termination letters.
  • Assist with drafting policies, procedures, and templates, and developing training surrounding compliance obligations and corporate requirements.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school required.

EXPERIENCE:
  • 10+ years' post-law school experience as an attorney, preferably with top-tier law firm or corporate legal department.
  • At least 5 years' experience interpreting, negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements and equipment lease agreements.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Active Florida Bar membership or Florida Authorized House Counsel certification required.
