Minimum Qualifications

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for regional alumni outreach for the University of Georgia through the chapters program. This role is responsible for identifying, engaging, and building relationships with volunteer leaders as well as executing the vision for the chapters program. The Director is responsible for achieving the goals set by the Senior Director and organizing, planning, and communicating at a leadership level. It is expected that meaningful engagement of volunteers and other alumni, family, and friends, should promote philanthropic support for the University.

The position works in a team setting where responsibilities involve collaboration, communications, volunteers, and colleagues across campus.

  • Execute vision for the chapters program as directed by Senior Director of Alumni Relations.
  • Maintain a positive environment in the chapters department.
  • Ensure chapter events are executed with professionalism, excellence and have a primary mission of educating attendees on the priorities and needs at the University of Georgia.
  • Identify, recruit, and vet top volunteer leaders to lead chapters in all Development & Alumni Relations' (DAR) priority markets and other markets with large populations of alumni, family, friends, and prospective students.
  • Lead Chapters' staff in areas of interpersonal communication, professional development, and problem solving.
  • Execute a creative and wide-reaching regional chapter program strategy to connect and reconnect alumni with the University of Georgia.
  • Sustain the chapters program structure and manage ongoing recruiting, training, and management of chapter volunteers.
  • Oversee the coaching of volunteer leaders.
  • Develop and manage processes for onboarding and transitioning chapter leaders. Maintain a monthly conference call for chapter leaders and Chapters' staff.
  • Ensure that chapters have a strategic, UGA-focused calendar of events and programs to engage a broad range of alumni.
  • Attend chapter programs and meetings in order to promote positive and collaborative communication and volunteer support as assigned.
  • Prospect future volunteer leaders and donors.
  • Serve as a thought leader in strategy sessions related to the alumni experience as well as liaison with other units that interact with the alumni community.
  • Build internal relationships with campus colleagues in order to improve the alumni experience.
  • Manage and supervise positions reporting to this position; Develop performance initiatives, expectations, and evaluate his/her performance annually.

  • Manage the planning and execution of the following programs: Alumni Leadership Assembly, Game Watching Parties, Day at the Braves, Day at the United, Day at the Hawks, regional/alumni events, and other programs as assigned.
  • Develop timelines, staff responsibilities, program schedules, internal collaboration opportunities, pre/post-event communication strategies for attendees and campus partners.
  • Assist with other special regional projects and events as assigned.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the academic units to create opportunities for alumni participation, and partner with development colleagues to plan alumni outreach programs and events.
  • Speak publicly about chapters' structure and programs to board members, alumni, senior campus administrators, or other high-level individuals.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in the Office of Development and other campus partners.
  • Attend and serve as an alumni relations leader for events as assigned.

  • Work collaboratively across all unit functions within the Office of Alumni Relations to ensure all teams can fulfill obligations, meet deadlines, and to consistently maintain business continuity.
  • Work collaboratively with the communications team to manage chapter Web pages, social media pages, monthly chapter leader messages, and event requests.
  • Provide new strategies for communication between regional alumni and chapter leaders, and between chapter leaders and Alumni Relations Staff.
  • Monitor chapter social media pages.
  • Coordinate communication to other internal units regarding chapter events, new leadership, etc.
