DIRECTOR OF EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATIONS

The Position : Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategic Communications, with an additional reporting line to the President, the Director of Executive Communications crafts strategic messaging to advance university-wide goals. Working with a team of communications professionals, the Director plays a critical role in amplifying the President's voice and shaping the public image of California State University, Los Angeles. The Director crafts clear, concise, and impactful communications for diverse audiences, including students, staff, faculty, alumni, community members, civic leaders, donors, prospective students, and their families. The Director maintains a deep understanding of the President's priorities, to be leveraged in the development of compelling communication pieces. The Director also manages the flow of presidential writing assignments. As a key advisor to the Executive Director, the Director offers insights and recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of the Office of Strategic Communications while maintaining outreach to college-based communication leads. The Director further supports media relations as needed.

Required Qualifications & Experience : Five years of professional experience in public relations, journalism, education, or combination thereof. Experience crafting executive-level communications for a public or private institution; and in project management. The incumbent must have excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills. The incumbent must have the ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgment and discretion. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current California State University employees who may apply for the position. As a part of the recruitment process, a task will be required.

Compensation : Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $4,812 - $15,449/monthly. Budgeted Hiring Salary Range $10,000 - $11,500/monthly. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Appointment : The Administrator II appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
