The UVA Department of Medicine is seeking to hire a Director of Financial Planning & Analysis. The major focus of this position is to develop financial models and forecasts that inform the operational and strategic decisions of the Department leadership. This position is key to establishing the strategic direction of the Department. The position develops and implements business practices and structures that integrate data to use in financial analysis.

The position requires a results-oriented individual with a track record of financial analysis and the ability to develop effective systems to gather, organize and report data for decision making. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to develop institutional knowledge, collaborate with senior leadership, provide strategic direction, forecast, and develop financial systems. Experience in process improvement and the ability to look beyond the standard approaches to problem solving and propose innovative solutions to existing and future challenges are key. Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary with the ability to collaborate across institutional boundaries as a liaison and leader.

The successful candidate will:
  • Continuously analyze and assess the financial position of the department to help leadership understand challenges and opportunities.
  • Prepare financial models for new initiatives.
  • Prepare financial forecasts.
  • Develop and implement business practices that integrate data needed by leadership to manage the department and to inform financial decisions.
  • Develop and implement structures/systems that integrate operational and financial data needed by leadership.
  • Ensure access to real time information and actively participate in department leadership and initiatives.
  • Coordinate strategic endeavors with all necessary personnel and entities.
  • Develop business and staffing plans, as they relate to project development and financial health.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant subject required, MBA or Masters' degree in relevant subject is strongly preferred.
Experience: Ten years of experience in a financial discipline required; supervisory experience is preferred; five years of experience in higher education setting preferred
Licensure: None

Preferred Qualifications:

Budget development experience

Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

This is a restricted position and continuation will be dependent on availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
