DIRECTOR OF NURSING

Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Nursing functions as the chief nurse executive and has 24 hour a day/seven days a week responsibility for treatment services provided for inpatient and partial programs. This individual serves as a key member of hospital leadership. The Director of Nursing promotes patient care consistent with the philosophy, mission and objectives of Garfield Park Hospital. Participates in rotating AOC schedule to provide administrative support/coverage for the entire hospital.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. The Director of Nursing must demonstrate knowledge and skills in provision of services to a various populations including children, adolescent, preadolescents and adult patients in an inpatient and partial hospital setting.
Education: Graduate of a nursing program with a BSN required; MSN preferred.
Experience: Prefer 5 years clinical experience with a psychiatric mental health population, 3 years previous clinical supervisory role in an inpatient psychiatric setting and administrative/ management experience.
Licensure/Certification: Licensed by the State of Illinois as a registered nurse. BLS Provider certification through the American Heart Association and CPI certification required upon completion of orientation. BLS Provider and CPI certifications must remain active throughout employment.
Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing principles, working concepts and theory, leadership skills, age specific growth and development, limit setting, crisis and behavior management.
