You will also have access to our comprehensive benefits and competitive pay in addition to growth opportunities and excellent retirement options.Job Summary:The Group Project Controls Director is responsible for all Project Controls activities for the Construction and Security Solutions Group (CSSG) in Akima. This individual will have managerial oversight of approximately 6-7 Project Control managers and analysts, and will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in all aspects of Project Control. The successful candidate will regularly interface with Group President, Operations VP, Group Finance Director. This individual will report directly to the VP of Project Controls.This is a highly visible, fast paced, high volume role, in which the selected individual will at times be required to be hands on in executing work under tight deadlines, as well as hold team members accountable for quality, compliance and delivery of time - sensitive work products. This person must be experienced in training, mentoring and developing staff and managing distribution of workload, to include managing timelines, deliverables and special projects. This is a working management, hands-on role requiring the person to perform any and all aspects of project controls work to be sure the team meets internal and external SLAs.This position is primarily based in the Herndon, VA, with the ability to work from home on Fridays!ResponsibilitiesJob Responsibilities:
  • Provides oversight, training and mentoring to the operating company Project Controllers
  • Ensures workload is distributed effectively among staff members
  • Recruits, hires and mentors experienced project control support where needed
  • Ensures all months end close deadlines are met and participate in the reviews
  • Ensures all quarterly unbilled analyses are completed on time and QA'd per company policy
  • Ensures EACs are developed, maintained and routed at least quarterly for all applicable programs per Akima's EAC compliance policy
  • Enhances Estimate at Completion (EAC) tools
  • Schedules quarterly Corporate EAC reviews
  • Provides support for new project transitions/phase-ins and Costpoint project setups as needed
  • Assists in corporate level processes improvement initiatives
  • Assists with proposal / pricing reviews, as needed
  • Communicates with the Project Management and Controls communities via Project Controller forums, intranet postings and conduct classroom training sessions.
  • Assists with project planning/scheduling/baseline development, cost/variance analysis, project setup, and project reporting.
QualificationsMinimum Qualification:
  • Finance, Accounting or Engineering discipline preferred.
  • Master's Degree a plus.
  • Minimum years of experience: 15 years of Project Controls experience working for a Federal Government Contractor. Master's degree in relevant field will be accepted in lieu of two years of experience.
  • Specific Experience:
  • Solid understanding of all contract types, FAR regulations, government compliance.
  • Costpoint project setup, reporting and invoicing.
  • Process improvement.
  • Revenue recognition rules and regulations.
  • EAC development / EAC reviews
  • Cost and schedule variance analysis
  • Unbilled analysis
  • Project Management experience with new tool or process roll outs, new project awards
  • Supervisory / Management experience, training and mentoring geographically dispersed team of professionals
  • Specific equipment and applications experience required: Proficiency with Costpoint and Cognos reporting tools, Microsoft Excel
  • Must have solid personnel management experience/skills, communication skills and must be comfortable presenting to Senior Leadership, audiences of up to 100 participants and teaching courses in a classroom setting
Desired Qualifications:
  • Cognos Report Development experience
  • Power BI report development
  • Earned Value Reporting Experience
  • Project Scheduling experience using Microsoft Project or Primavera
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
