Job Summary

The Director , Talent Development is responsible for developing the University's workplace learning and development, organizational development, performance management and change management strategy.

Leveraging Northwestern's collaborative environment, this role will work closely with the central Human Resources leadership team and Human Resources partners throughout the University to develop and implement programming for manager and leadership development, performance management and engagement, career development, and other critical talent practices for staff members at all stages of the employee life cycle.

The Director will be responsible for the analysis and implementation as appropriate of a University-wide needs assessment of the University's talent development offerings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and implement the University's talent development strategy that includes: workplace learning and career development, organizational development, performance management, organizational effectiveness, and change management .
  • Manage the Talent Development team, directly fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and excellence.
  • Partner with other areas of HR, such as Talent Acquisition, HRBPs, and Inclusion, to deliver programs that support the University's recruitment and retention strategy.
  • Address the need for change readiness with school and unit Human Resources leaders by providing a change management framework, consultation, and tools.
  • Supervise and manage the Talent Development budget.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Business or a related field and 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a talent development function in a large, decentralized organization.
  • Exceptional people management skills, including the ability to develop and motivate a staff of human resources professionals and manage complex relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of talent management competencies, including learning and development, organizational development, performance management, change management, and career development for managers and individual contributors.
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, using data to drive talent management decisions.
  • Strong project management skills, managing multiple initiatives and priorities simultaneously and taking a hands-on approach as necessary.
  • Action-oriented with the ability to deliver on short deadlines while appropriately engaging key stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in HR software and learning management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing talent in a related sector such as higher education, academic medical centers, health care, research or government.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $165,000-$175,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
