Summary:

The Director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Temple University is a visionary leader managing a significant engine for economic impact and community development. This position provides the opportunity for a dynamic leader to impact economic development and create opportunities for businesses and individuals throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding communities through entrepreneurship and business creation, growth, and resilience.

The director oversees the SBDC to deliver business management consulting, education, and research services to enable entrepreneurs to start new businesses and help established businesses grow and prosper. The Temple University SBDC is one of 15 SBDCs in Pennsylvania and is responsible for delivering services to entrepreneurs and businesses in lower Bucks, eastern Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties. Services are provided through a team of professional staff, outside contractors, and undergraduate and graduate students. The Center is funded by the Small Business Administration (SBA), the Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED), and the Fox School of Business at Temple University. The continuation of funding is dependent upon meeting annual metrics, including the number of clients served, number of jobs created and retained, access to capital, training provided, and community outreach to under-served and marginalized communities.

In addition to supporting the core mission of the SBDC network, the Center develops and oversees other externally funded programs aligned with economic development. It is the incumbent's responsibility to seek other funding opportunities, resources, and partnerships that support the growth of the Center.

The SBDC Director is responsible for the management of the Center, including administration of multiple programs and awards, compliance, financial management, human resources management, and stakeholder relations, among other responsibilities that further the SBDC's core mission. The Director works closely with internal and external stakeholders at the university and in the local and regional ecosystem, including student and alumni engagement across campus. The SBDC Director reports to the Dean's Office of the Fox School of Business at Temple University and has oversight and reporting requirements to the State Director of the Pennsylvania SBDC network.

• The SBDC director is responsible for the strategic direction and management of the center and provides oversight of all grants, operations, personnel, and services, including:

o delivery of services to meet performance expectations and in alignment with grant requirements, the policies and procedures of the Pennsylvania SBDC program, laws, and other governing documents.

o developing and impl ementing strategic objective s aligned wit h the SBDC's core mi ssion.

o quality control oversight and data analysis to ensure services meet client expectations and needs.

o preparing funding proposals; preparing and managing budgets; compliance with grant requirements.

o collection and reporting of data by program guidelines and requirements.

o submission of reports to the Pennsylvania SBDC, funding agencies, the University, and other stakeholders and partners; and

o management of employees, consultants, and students employed by the SBDC by University and SBDC policies.

• Contribute to knowledge creation and dissemination through communicating with peers and participating in all Pennsylvania SBDC network activities and meetings.

• Outreach to educate clients, partners, and stakeholders, including federal, state, and local elected officials, on SBDC services and impact.

• Participate in regional economic development initiatives and represent the SBDC in the community.

• Support projects related to entrepreneurship collaboratively with other units within the Fox School and the University, such as the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute, The Temple University Entrepreneurship Academy, and the CIBER program.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Master's degree in Business Management, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field and at least five years of management experience that includes managing grants, contracts, and budgets; raising funding through grants, contracts, and private sector sources; and managing staff. Significant knowledge of entrepreneurship, small business management and operations, accounting and financial analysis, marketing, market research, human resource management, financing, and legal issues.





An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

*Proficient digital technology skills and ability to use the CRM to generate reports and data necessary for operational improvements and to meet reporting requirements.

*Strong ability to monitor the work of others, mentor staff, and manage performance through regular feedback.

Preferred:

* Small Business ownership/experience

*Demonstrated familiarity with Neoserra or similar CRM software

*Compliance experience with federal/state grants, particularly SBA or DCED

This is a grant funded position.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
