DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Disability Management and Workers' Compensation Manager, the Case Manager plays a critical role in supporting employees and departments with occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses. This role is crucial for ensuring that employees can effectively perform their essential job functions. This position impacts constituencies at all levels of the organization.

This Case Manager role provides services to departments and employees by ensuring consistent application of disability-related federal and state laws as well as of workers' compensation, University policies, contracts and procedures.
Responsible for managing the entire process of workplace accommodation cases, to include but not limited to: initial intake and assessment, review work restrictions, coordination for interactive process, reasonable accommodations, job reassignments and medical separations.This role handles highly confidential and sensitive assignments as well as interfaces effectively with providers, medical professionals, HR, Health and Safety, Payroll/Timekeeping, the University's Workers' Compensation Third Party Administrator, legal counsel, state and federal agency representatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and medical reports and their respective implications for claim handling and reasonable accommodation. Ability to maintain highly confidential information in an appropriate manner while ensuring high ethical standards.
- Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of California workers' compensation claims management; ADA, FMLA, CFRA, EEOC/DFEH and other related regulations and provisions.
- Ability to conduct job analyses to recommend reasonable accommodations and to compare functional capacity to job requirements in order to recommend reasonable accommodations.
- Proven conceptual and oral communication skills to explain related University and location policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreement articles.
- Proven customer service orientation, active listening skills, and organizational skills while balancing significant caseloads.
- Ability to explain and persuade in a concise manner and ability to communicate complex information effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point
- Completion of Insurance Educational Association course WCCA 10, Foundations of California Workers' Compensation Claims, or equivalent California Workers' Compensation certificate program.
- Certified Professional in Disability Management, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Certified ADA Coordinator.
- Experience in working in higher education or a large healthcare organization.
- Working knowledge of case management and payroll and benefits/leaves systems.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
