Under direction of the Program Manager I, the Disaster Assistance Program Specialist II (DAPS II), within the Closeout Unit III, will perform work with significant independence and moderate to difficult complexity in relation to the delivery of state and federal disaster assistance programs. Serves as a lead person and mentor over DAPS I staff. The incumbent will collaborate closely with team members and various units such as Public Assistance, Hazard Mitigation, and Financial Processing. The DAPS II workload will include research, analysis, and the drafting of reports to assist with closing out state and federally funded projects. The incumbent will function in a high-demand and dynamic environment, which requires an ability to work independently while effectively maintaining a routine workload. The DAPS II will be required to meet regulatory and/or internal deadlines for all assignments and/or projects. Additionally, the incumbent may be required to travel on short notice, work in a Joint Field Office (JFO), and work overtime, if necessary, to support program objectives.

Working Conditions

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule which includes up to two days of remote work per week. Additional in office days may be required based on the business need.

DMV Pull Program
Participation in the DMV Pull Program is required. The position(s) require(s) a valid California Driver's License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.

Conflict of Interest

The Recovery Section is responsible for managing disaster recovery and providing assistance to local governments, special districts, certain nonprofit organizations, individuals, businesses and agricultural communities impacted by disasters. The Recovery Section ensures state and federal support are provided in an efficient and timely manner throughout the recovery process.

In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.

    Disaster Assistance Programs Specialist II - Exam 6OEBB

    Training and Development (T&D) assignments are temporary assignments to provide an employee training and experience to move to a different occupational field. A T&D assignment is a formal agreement between the employee, the current supervisor, and the new supervisor. The duration of agreements can vary in length but shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months.

    The duration may also be the length of experience needed to meet the minimum qualifications. Please note they are only available to current California State employees who have permanent status.
