Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Transportation's Staunton District seeks a highly qualified District Engineer for the Structure and Bridge section. This position provides management, leadership and direction for assigned District engineering section. The responsibilities of this position consist of planning, monitoring and oversight of staff, programs, and budgets for the design, inspection, construction and maintenance of bridges and structures.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience applying engineering practices and principles as they apply to design, construction and maintenance of bridges and other structural assets.
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field.
• Experience managing staff, programs contract management and budgets.
• Experience in structure and bridge inspection procedures.
• Knowledge of state and federal standards and regulations, policies and procedures related to transportation and structures.
• Progressively responsible experience related to project scheduling and project management.
• Valid Professional Engineer's license.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering design and analysis software.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with contractors, political entities and general public.
• Experience applying civil and design engineering principles related to roadway, structures, drainage and environmental.

• Broad and extensive experience applying civil engineering and design engineering principles related to roadway, structures, drainage and environmental.
• Advanced knowledge of state and federal standards and regulations, policies and procedures related to transportation and structures.
