DSCI Careers in Public Service Project Coordinator VISTA

The Department of Service and Civic Innovation was created to respond to Governor Wes Moore's call to make Maryland the State that Serves. DSCI supports expanding public service as a pathway into good quality jobs in public service across the state through Maryland Corps/Service Year Option and AmeriCorps programs. The Careers in Public Service Project Coordinator VISTA will build capacity in our program by helping to create a National Service Hiring Priority within Maryland state and local government. The member will research public policy around public hiring practices and help craft new policy aimed to create a pipeline from national service programs to jobs in government. The member will design communication strategies to connect service members and alumni with jobs in public service. The member will gain skills in public policy, research, communications, social media, and government services. The Careers in Public Service Project Coordinator VISTA should be passionate about the value of public service and excited to build skills in public policy, communications, and government operations. Previous experience with government organizations is a benefit but not required. The Careers in Public Service Project Coordinator VISTA position comes with the benefits of VISTA service provided by AmeriCorps including a living allowance of $22,819.16 per year, health coverage options through the AmeriCorps agency, and an option at end of service of a Segal Education Award or a Cash Stipend. Member Duties : The Careers in Public Service Project Coordinator VISTA will engage with the Maryland Department of Budget Management to discuss ways to craft and implement the National Service Hiring Priority. The member will research public policy best practices including how other states have implemented similar goals. The member will develop a communication strategy to connect current service members and alumni to current government jobs. This will include social media posting and creating different media targeted at the audience of service members/alumni. The member will also design materials targeting employers to extoll the value of national service alumni as quality employees.
