Roanoke County Public Schools is currently seeking applicants for the position of Early Childhood Special Education Teacher for the 2024-25 school year.

Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Virginia prior to August 2024.

Job Goal:

To provide an early childhood educational program designed for children ages 2-5.

Position Description/Job Summary :

The teacher will plan and provide for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervise students in a variety of school related settings. Monitor and evaluate student outcomes. Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community. Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintain appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
  • Performs in compliance with instructional program guidelines and legal requirements of IDEA and Federal regulations.
  • Applies knowledge of curriculum and specialized instructional strategies to improve student performance with regard to standard based and criterion based assessments.
  • Assess student's learning on an ongoing basis through data collection and alters instruction to meet group and individual student needs.
  • Documents and evaluates student progress and communicates progress with parents.
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Coordinates with related service personnel to optimize student learning.
  • Monitors behavior and provides positive behavioral support.
  • Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations and accreditations standards, including documentation for eligibility and IEP process.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current research which supports "best practice" in the field of exceptional education.
  • Demonstrate abilities in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships and planning.

Other Job Functions:
  • Collaborate with the District Office administration and site administrator to review and implement program improvements.
  • Attend meetings as requested.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Job Requirements/Qualifications:
  • College degree in the field of early childhood special education
  • Leadership experience
  • Ability to maintain confidential files and information
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, parents and community agencies
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritize work
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
