The California Department of Education (CDE) seeks a professional applicant for an Education Programs Consultant in the Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Office within the Whole Child Division. Under the general supervision of the Education Administrator I of the Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Office, and the Director of the Whole Child Division, the Education Programs Consultant works in both group and independent settings on complex assignments, and provides support to the Office on programmatic planning, implementation,and evaluation related to youth tobacco prevention in California. The TUPE Office is responsible for providing technical assistance and guidance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and collaborating with other state agencies and organizations to prevent or reduce the use of tobacco products by school-age youth. With a health equity lens, duties include:

Consult with LEAs, district and county coordinators, to provide them with leadership, technical assistance, and best practices to prevent or reduce youth tobacco use. Review and respond to progress reports from LEAs and contractors.

Collaborate with California Department of Public Health, California Tobacco Prevention Program, University of California Office of the President's Tobacco-Related Disease and Research Program (TRDRP), and the Tobacco Education and Research Oversight Committee (TEROC) to develop and implement activities that will promote youth tobacco prevention and education.

Develop presentations and webinars to educate LEAs, colleagues, and partners arbout youth tobacco prevention issues. Develop and implement activities and trainings that promote the use of positive youth development strategies to support the TUPE office in school settings.

Write, review, and edit educational documents, including reports, frameworks, grant applications, and contracts for the TUPE Office Administrator, Division Director, and Department Deputy Superintendents. Prepare written responses to letters and other inquiries.

Working Conditions

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
