Hourly range for RSAM Registered Nurses (12+ months experience) $39.47 - $61.39 / hour
  • Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour
  • Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour
  • Day Shift Weekend Differential- $2.90 / hour
  • Evening Shift Weekend Differential- $5.90 / hour
  • Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour
  • Charge Nurse Differential- $1.00 / hour

Responsibilities*

In collaboration with the CCMU Educational Coordinator (ENC) working day shift, this off shift or night coverage ENC role will be responsible for all of the following:

To develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate the Critical Care Medicine Unit's (CCMU) new employee orientation program. To identify CCMU's ongoing staff educational needs and facilitate in-services as appropriate to the needs of the nursing team. To provide, and coordinate nursing focused institutional educational initiatives for unit staff. To design and implement staff development plans. These activities are done in collaboration with the CCMU Nursing Leadership Team. To demonstrate the clinical nursing role through direct patient care, role modeling, and consultation to nursing and other members of the health care team.

Partnering with the unit?s other ENC, this night shift role responsibilities will include to:
  • Staff a minimum of 16 hrs per week
  • Develop, coordinate, execute, evaluate, and update nursing and tech orientation for the Critical Care Medicine Unit. Develop, educate, and evaluate unit preceptors. Coordination of multidisciplinary, interdepartmental orientation experiences.
  • In collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Director and Nursing Leadership Team, monitor and evaluate the orientees performance in the clinical area during the first 6 months of employment. Provide regular communication to the manager and orientee regarding the orientees performance/progress. Provide remedial orientation/education as needed.
  • Identify staffs on-going educational requirements and facilitate continuing education as appropriate
  • Conduct individualized and group learning programs for nursing and tech staff based on needs assessments and monitoring of the units clinical patient care standards and outcomes.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of staff developmental plans with respect to education..
  • Facilitate the completion of unit based mandatories and institutional regulatory requirements.
  • Actively participate in CCMU Nursing Leadership Team, research, CQI and facility wide educational groups.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in hospital records and other databases.
  • Serve as nursing role model through the provision of direct patient care in all treatment areas of the CCMU on a regular basis.

Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.

RSAM levels range from ENC-COMPETENT-NE to ENC-EXPERT-NE TO ENC-MASTERY-NE.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Two or more years' experience in a Medical Intensive Care setting in the past five years.
  • Current experience coordinating staff education and teaching experience with in a variety of settings (formal, informal, groups, 1:1 etc)

  • Progressive Professional Development in a Critical Care setting
  • ACLS or CCRN certification
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate change, direct nursing practice, prioritize, problem solve, evaluate outcomes and delegate as evidenced by previous employment experience. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills as evidenced by excellence in verbal and written communication skills among shifts, positive and professional attitude, and ability to provide direct and effective feedback Demonstrated excellent organizational, and leadership skills including working with a team.
  • Demonstrated excellent clinical patient care skills and problem solving skills. Demonstrated unit and committee involvement with evidence of accepting increasing responsibilities as evidenced by two or more years in the Charge Nurse Role, two or more years of teaching skills including two years' preceptor experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to model and promote positive, constructive, and professional relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with others in assessing, designing and implementing innovative educational programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and support an environment characterized by safe discussion, constructive feedback, conflict resolution and direct communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate change, develop creative solutions, prioritize, problem solve, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Track record of active involvement and leadership in unit and institutional teams.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Leadership experience with demonstrated knowledge of adult learning concepts and the nursing developmental model.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize an evidenced based data driven approach to facilitate/create change at the bedside
  • Demonstrated interest/involvement in patient/staff quality and safety
  • Demonstrated ability to produce quality academic work (ie:abstacts, posters and formal presentations)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with nursing leadership to resolve clinical and operational issues
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Powerpoint presentations.


Work Schedule

Hours: 36 hours per week (Expected to staff a minimum of 16 hours per week)

Shift/Hours/Days: Primarily nights and evenings, 8 and 12 hour shifts

Location: University Hospital; 6D, Critical Care Medicine Unit

All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
