Duties

Provide electrical engineering design, technical direction, oversight of engineers and technicians for substation projects from 12kV and above for multiple project sites of medium to high voltage electrical substation projects. Prepare a variety of complex electrical engineering technical drawings, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, equipment wiring diagrams, panel front view drawings, equipment arrangement, grounding layouts, conduit layout plans, elevation drawings and bill of materials for high voltage substation design projects. Operate computer-assisted engineering or design software to perform calculations including conductor ampacity/derating, battery sizing, AC/DC station service loading, voltage drop, conduit fill following standard methods and principles. Confer with engineers, clients, or others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects or products. Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Serve as team lead to review and approve work of lower-level engineers for all aspects of design. Coordinate with other disciplines. Perform quality verifications for electricals drawings and calculations prior to issuing for construction. Serve as the responsible engineer by developing recommendations and specifications for equipment and/or material selection. Review vendor drawings. Provide manhour, schedule, and cost estimates for proposals. Supervises Engineering technicians. No hire/fire authority.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, plus three years of related experience. Must have substation design experience including designing wiring and schematic diagrams for relaying panels, SCADA drawings, one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC diagrams, electrical plan views, electrical section views, conduit/raceway plans, cable charts, and grounding plans. Must have experience with AC/DC Load sizing calculations, lightning calculations, conduit fill calculations and voltage drop calculations. Must have experience in electrical commissioning and installation, and retrofitting of switchgear and relays. Must have experience with NESC, NEC and IEEE standards. National travel (up to 10%). Telecommuting is permissible within a reasonable commuting distance from the Houston, TX office. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
