Position Description

This position will be located in Houston, Texas.

  • Collaborate with Kinder Morgan personnel to collect, calculate and compile Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG and Criteria Air Pollutant (CAP) emissions, throughput volumes, barrel of oil equivalent, and GHG intensity related data. Verify the accuracy of the data collected, identify and resolve data discrepancies, and provide suggestions to Management for improving data quality.


  • Work with Kinder Morgan business segment personnel to maintain protocols for GHG and CAP emissions, GHG reductions and intensity, BOE and other GHG/emissions related metrics, which outline the processes, controls, and quality assurance used to compile and validate the data.


  • Conduct variance analysis to identify and explain main sources of changes period over period, identify issues with data and explain changes to Management.
  • Work with business segment personnel to develop GHG related slides for Quarterly Business Reviews.


  • Interface with internal and external auditors during assurance and assurance-readiness, participate in effort to address deficiencies or recommendations identified.


  • Present GHG and CAP emissions data to Management concisely and accurately. Show trends, outliers, and identify areas where GHG emissions and CAP performance could improve.


  • Model future company GHG emissions and emission reduction initiatives in GHG modeling software.


  • Work with the IT Department and/or external contractors to update systems that manage GHG and CAP emissions data on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.


  • Gather necessary information, such as sustainability related initiatives, projects, programs, data, etc. to assist in the production of our annual ESG Report and other periodic ESG disclosures.


  • Collaborate with company Technical Work Groups and other groups/departments (e.g., OSG, Investor Relations, Human Resources, Operations, Procurement and Administration, Legal, and Corporate Communications) to develop and review ESG report narrative, review and assure/audit metrics, and create or update policies, processes, and systems as needed.


  • Stay up to date on changes to ESG regulations, standards, and guidelines (e.g., SEC, CA GHG Disclosure Rules, GHG Protocol, SBTi, ISSB, GRI, CDP, UN SDGs, and TCFD).


Position Requirements

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in science, engineering or related field from an accredited school
  • High level of expertise using Microsoft Excel and other Office applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Teams.


Job Requirements:

  • Possess background knowledge of calculation methodologies and reporting of GHG emissions under The GHG Protocol and EPA's Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program.
  • Possess a working knowledge of U.S. federal and state GHG and methane regulations.
  • Detailed-oriented with an ability to analyze data find potential errors, and present findings to Management.
  • Proficient with technology and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Excellent written, intra-personal, and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed organizational skills including the ability to manage several projects at once.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Travel may be required and is anticipated to be 5% to 10% annually.
  • Satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a valid state driver license.
  • Exhibit high regard for ethics and personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor, adhere to work schedules, focus on details, and follow work rules.

Preferred Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in calculating and reporting GHG emissions.
  • Possess a working knowledge of the oil & gas midstream sector and the sustainability challenges and opportunities the sector faces.
  • Prior experience writing or reviewing ESG/Sustainability reports.
  • Knowledge of Kinder Morgan business unit operations.
  • Experience reporting under the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB)/International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) S1 and S2 standards, TCFD, and CDP standards.
  • Experience with implementing the standards in the GHG Protocol.
  • Experience with process or system implementations.
  • Experience building Power BI or other business intelligence reports.
  • Workiva or Palantir Foundry software experience.


Job level will commensurate with experience and skill sets.
