The New Product Development Engineer is responsible for developing product concepts into products that are manufactural, technically feasible, and commercially viable. This role supports the NPD objectives of developing new product concepts and evaluating newly sourcing products, to expand our line and presence in the market. Throughout the development process, the New Product Development Engineer will manage multiple projects while communicating effectively with all departments.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for designing and building a variety of products that integrate electrical and mechanical components. These products will be part of our expanding plumbing, HVAC and safety product lines.
  • Design and develop new innovative products with knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes to meet the expectations of customer and emerging demands of our market.
  • Incorporate new technology, materials or designs into our products reducing cost and improving performance.
  • Evaluating newly sourced products against competitors and existing standards
  • Run simulation processes optimizing 3D product models. Obtain appropriate prototypes to test and validate product is meeting performance requirements.
  • Prepare product documents, preliminary layouts, BOM, and cost studies for custom proposals and manufacturing orders.
  • Travel to different vendors will be required to address current product project as well as customer's sites for product support. Some travel may be required to visit vendors, customers, and installation sites to investigate and assist in product related issues.
  • Utilize provided software programs to enhance job performance, manage tasks and increase process efficiency.
  • Applies technical skill, creative abilities and problem solving techniques to design or modify designs items to meet project objectives. Assist and support any NPD project, production request or Engineering activity as needed.
  • Design and develop test equipment and protocols for compliance to internal quality levels and applicable published standards.
  • Maintain accurate system information and ISO quality procedures related to the Engineering Department.
  • Work closely and communicate regularly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with other departments and other key stakeholders on assigned projects.

  • The New Product Development Engineer reports to the Director of New Product Development
  • Close daily interactions: PM, QLE & NPD Departments, Operations & Customer Care.
  • Close interactions: Sourcing/Quality, Manufacturing.
  • External interactions: outside design/engineering resources, 3 rd party testing & certification resources
  • No direct supervisory responsibilities
  1. QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/SKILLS

  • A Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Self-motivated and disciplined individual with goal oriented disposition who can manage multiple projects with minimal oversight.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience in manufacturing and custom product development.
  • Proficient user of 3D modeling software (SolidWorks)
  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing methods, processes, materials metals, thermoplastics, rubbers and associated molding, fabrication processes and constraints in design.
  • Thorough knowledge of electronic technologies including controllers, sensor, energy supplies, HMI and different communication type for products.
  • Knowledge on components used for wiring harness design. (Wire types and its selection, Fuses, Relays, Controllers, connectors, coverings, support clips etc.)
  • Experience with developing power systems and alternate energy harvesting systems for products. Ability to read and understand electrical schematic layouts and circuit designs.
  • Knowledge of applicable Plumbing Codes, Electric Codes and Standards.
  • Experience with prototyping equipment and techniques.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical systems.
  • Excellent analytical skills and fundamental engineering knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively present communicate information in one to one and small group situations to other Associates of the organization.
  • Possess the organizational skills needed to handle multiple projects.
  • Possess the detail focus to accurately interpret SOW, drawings, engineering specifications, and quality standards to effectively meet objective.
  • Strong ability to write concise, coherent written instructions.
  • Able to take instruction from others and execute actions effectively with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines and in a busy, fast-paced, quick-turn environment.
