The ED provides care for emergent and non-emergent populations. The Emergency Services cooperates with all community agencies and services in disaster preparedness and is included in the countywide disaster. The ED is a level 1 trauma center comprised of 84 patient rooms, triage, provider in triage (PIT) for low acuity, and the ability to expand treatment spaces (hallway beds) in case of patient surge.
The department fulfills the following responsibilities:
1. Assessing patient's healthcare needs, stabilizing as is possible, and evaluating those patients with life threatening conditions, providing services immediatley indicated
2. Establishing and maintaining necessary training programs to provide ED and community personnel with the basic skills to intervene in life threatening situations
3. Communicating the availability of follow-up care as provided by the hospital or other community health care services.
