Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Emergency Response Technician/Crisis Prevention Officer/Security Officer IV who will maintain safety and milieu management of residential population and staff at Western State Hospital (WSH); maintain constant and positive interactions with patients on the unit; ensure that unit safety is maintained on each unit on each shift and provide therapeutic and physical interventions when needed while also assisting with monitoring and engagement services with patients; respond to emergency codes on the units; ultimate control over the safety of patients on designed units through effective and compliant use of Therapeutic Options and approved de-escalation techniques; and responsible for leading the safety culture and initiatives on the unit.

This position will also conduct walk-throughs as designated by Administration on the units to help provide a safe and secure environment and milieu for patients and staff; conduct searches on the units as required; respond to the scene of any fire, disaster, duress alarm, or any other such emergency and assist as needed, check the security of all forensic units; escort residents' safety and securely to destinations within the facility; and properly apply approved restraints as needed.

The shifts are 8am-8pm, 7 days a week...

Shift A: Sunday 4pm-8pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8am-8pm

Shift B: Saturday 4pm-8pm, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8am-8pm

Shift differentials are as follows:

- 2nd shift weekday $2.50 3-11
- 3rd shift weekday $2.25 11-7
- 1st shift weekend $3.00 7-3
- 2nd shift weekend $3.00 3-11
- 3rd shift weekend $3.00 11-7

Minimum Qualifications

- high school diploma or equivalent
- valid Virginia Driver's license with acceptable driving record
- experience in law enforcement, corrections, psychology, or related fields and/or equivalent combination of education and experience

Additional Considerations

- associates degree in Human Services
- prior experience in military police, mental heath, or related field
- experience preparing reports and conducting investigations
- experience in handling difficult individuals and be able to follow appropriate approved procedures to physically control, confine, and restrain in difficult situations
- bilingual
- veteran
