The Cal OES Earthquake, Tsunami and Volcano Program is looking for a planner to help California be better prepared for future seismic events! Our Program promotes activities that reduce earthquake and tsunami risks through whole community planning, statewide education and outreach, and implementation of mitigation strategies that increase California's resilience to seismic hazards. Through statewide preparedness events such as the Great California Shakeout, you will help ensure that Californians know how to protect themselves before, during, and after a seismic events, ultimately increasing the potential to save lives.

The Cal OES Planning, Preparedness, and Prevention Directorate develops and maintains statewide plans and planning guidance for local emergency management, state agencies, and tribal governments, including specialized programs for radiological preparedness, dam safety, seismic hazards such as earthquake, tsunami, and is home to the California Earthquake Early Warning System. The Seismic Hazards Branch focuses on improving the safety of California's residents and visitors before disaster strikes by enhancing earthquake, tsunami, and volcano preparedness. The Earthquake, Tsunami, and Volcano Program is responsible for promoting efforts to reduce earthquake risks; enhance tsunami planning, preparedness, and hazard mitigation among coastal communities; and promote volcanic awareness, planning, and preparedness in vulnerable areas within California.

The position will be based out of one of these counties: Sacramento, Los Angeles or Orange County, depending on the location of the selected candidate. The candidate must reside within one of these counties. If not, candidate will be expected to relocate at the candidate's own expense.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule which includes up to two days of remote work per week. Additional in office days may be required based on the business need.

The Planning, Preparedness, and Prevention Directorate develops and maintains statewide plans and planning guidance for local emergency management, state agencies, and tribal governments, including specialized programs for radiological preparedness, dam safety, seismic hazards, and earthquake early warning. This directorate also includes the California Specialized Training Institute which provides exercise support and courses in emergency management, hazardous materials response, criminal justice/officer safety, fire & rescue, and crisis communications.

In the event of an emergency, including but not limited to tsunami, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays) and will include a requirement to serve as a Duty Officer on behalf of the Seismic Hazards Branch. This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites. This work will directly contribute to life safety during seismic events such as an earthquake and tsunamis.

Emergency Services Coordinator - Exam 7PB30

Training and Development (T&D) assignments are temporary assignments to provide an employee training and experience to move to a different occupational field. A T&D assignment is a formal agreement between the employee, the current supervisor, and the new supervisor. The duration of agreements can vary in length but shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months.

The duration may also be the length of experience needed to meet the minimum qualifications. Please note they are only available to current California State employees who have permanent status.
