The Bureau of Job Service in the Division of Employment & Training has 2 permanent positions available in La Crosse, WI. Remote work may be available up to 2 days per week after training has been completed and per business needs. However, these are predominantly public facing positions.

Regular travel will be required. Most of this travel will be within the assigned region and not require an overnight, though occasional travel may be statewide and require an overnight. Please see our Workforce Development Area (WDA) map to see regions. La Crosse is in WDA 9.

Position Summary

The Employment & Training Specialist is a critical member of Wisconsin's Job Service's staff. Wisconsin Job Service works to promote economic and workforce development, employment and training, and career development. The primary responsibilities for these people-centered positions include the provision of high-quality customer service such as skills training, case management, mentoring, job search assistance, placement, career development, retention, and career advancement to a variety of underemployed and unemployed job seekers and career-changing workers.

Salary Information

Starting pay is between $22.20 and $25.26 per hour, plus an exemplary benefits package :

The classification title for these positions is Employment & Training Specialist (schedule 12, range 64). A 12-month probationary period will be required. These positions are not represented in a collective bargaining unit and are considered non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.

Job Details

Remote work: Employees with approved remote and hybrid-remote work arrangements are generally expected to work within the state of Wisconsin. High-speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work. Remote work options are subject to change.

Criminal histories: W e consider all qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state, and local law. Finalists for this position may be required to allow DWD to conduct a background check or other checks to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. For positions with access to sensitive federal tax information, FBI fingerprinting may also be required.

Eligibility to work in United States: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e. a US citizen or national or a lawful permanent resident) at the time of appointment. DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant completing the I-9 upon hire.

Qualifications

You need to have the following experience:
  • *Providing full service to meet customer's needs
  • *Using computers with basic office software (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, TEAMs, etc.)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including working as part of a team
  • Managing multiple, competing workloads
Any of the following experience would be nice to have:
  • *Conflict resolution or de-escalation
  • *Leading presentations or workshops in person or online
  • *Providing employment and training services (i.e. assisting people with job searches, resumes, interviews, career exploration, etc.) to people from a variety of backgrounds
  • *Working with and/or providing technical assistance to businesses or organizations to meet business needs (i.e. providing business services, business to business sales, performing job skills training, or working for a community outreach program that partners with employers, etc.)
