Job Summary:

The Energy Management Control Operator is responsible for operating campus Energy Management Control System (EMCS) by monitoring, controlling and responding to environmental conditions inside buildings.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Supports energy conservation, safety and comfort objectives by monitoring, operating, controlling, calibrating and scheduling mechanical and electrical building control systems.
2. Remotely recognizes problems in facilities by monitoring controls for temperature and equipment alarms.
3. Supports operator objectives by assisting in monitoring, operating controlling, calibrating and scheduling mechanical and electrical building control systems.
4. Troubleshoots systems by researching and evaluating conditions, advising supervisor and recommending actions.
5. Maintains EMCS operator systems by implementing preventive maintenance programs and schedules.
6. Responds to service calls during non-business hours by determining urgency and promptly notifying and/or dispatching the appropriate personnel.
7. Responds to alarms and emergency situations by following proper notification and dispatch procedures involving fire, safety and security, as well as mechanical, electrical or utility system failures.
8. Controls access to facilities by recording distribution, tracking and return of temporarily issued building keys.
9. Produces reports by collecting, manipulating and correlating various operating, maintenance, utility usage or other data.
10. Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
11. Supports the Customer Service Center and the Customer Service Associate by serving as back-up during work surges, emergencies, manpower shortages, etc.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• High school education or equivalency.
• 2 years experience in operation of building automation control systems or facilities maintenance and repair, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical and utilities systems.

Preferred Education & Experience:

• 5 years' experience in operation of building automation control systems or facilities maintenance and repair, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical and utilities systems.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• Valid Driver's License.
• Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.
• Satisfactory results from a post-offer physical examination.

Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:

• None

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of HVAC equipment, including chillers, boilers, air handlers and pumps.
• Knowledge of department specific software systems.
• Knowledge of some or all components of Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of customer service techniques.
• Ability to communicate technical information.
• Ability to analyze issues and make recommendations for solutions.

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, voice- or face-conferencing over internet or mobile device, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors/outdoors and mostly sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours via at office or remotely.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job except those usual conditions encountered in a mechanical/electrical room, vault or equipment space.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate except those usual noise levels encountered in a mechanical/electrical room, vault, or equipment space.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
