The Engineering Research Facility Technician will be responsible for processing and manufacturing equipment and facility operation for both hard and soft materials in the cleanroom facility. The microfabrication activities includes lithography, dry etching and deposition, wet processing, plating and metrology tools such as optical and physical thickness profilometry, SEM, microscopy, and stress measurement. The integrated soft materials capabilities includes soft-lithography and new CAD Bio capabilities for R&D on innovative regenerative materials, biomaterials synthesis, biomanufacturing, lab-on-a-chip, and rapid prototyping. Given the education setting, these positions include interaction with students, staff and faculty.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of thin film device fabrication and analysis tools such as vacuum pumps, electronics, electronic systems, photolithographic aligners, and sputter, reactive ion etching, and evaporation systems.
  • Responsible for the handling and organizing of hazardous waste chemicals for disposal.
  • Responsible for the tracking and handling of inventory, general chemicals and supplies used by lab personnel.
  • Responsible for working with and training students on the use of equipment tools, and to work with other staff.
  • Ability to use Excel, Word, etc., is required.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Five years of experience in lab instrumentation or equipment in a production or research environment. Experience with thin film device fabrication and analysis tools such as vacuum pumps, electronic systems, photolithographic aligners, and sputter, reactive ion etching, and evaporation systems. such equipment tools and processes is preferred. A Technical degree (or certification) may be considered in lieu of experience.
Licensure: None.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
