The City of Chesapeake Public Works Department, Facility Maintenance Division is currently accepting applications for one (1) full-time Facility Maintenance Technician II position.

Chesapeake Public Works, Facility Maintenance Division is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to maintain and repair various building structural systems (roofs, doors/windows, building exterior/interior elements, interior finishes, etc.); perform office renovation and construction; construct decks and porches; etc. Supervise junior technicians and contractors performing similar structural tasks as described above, train same in proper procedures and worksite safety.

Job Description:

• Perform troubleshooting/maintenance/repair of structural systems at City facilities (roofs, doors/windows, building exterior/interior elements, interior finishes, etc.).
• Perform office renovation and construction; construct decks and porches, etc.
• Supervise junior technicians and contractors performing similar structural tasks, train junior technicians in proper maintenance procedures and techniques and worksite safety.
• Perform troubleshooting/maintenance/repair on building systems other than
  structural (light HVAC , lighting, plumbing, etc.).
• Assist in the budget preparation process, write work orders, locate and order parts,
  and maintain maintenance files/records.
• Participate in process improvement activities and workgroups.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in a construction or maintenance trade, or a closely related field.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards . Special skills or equipment certification may be required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT : Performance of essential functions may require exposure to confined spaces. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
