The duties include but are not limited:
  • Exhibits positive human relations skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Maintains and submits records and reports as required.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
  • Must be willing to keep abreast of the latest research in language acquisition strategies.
  • Provides professional development to classroom teachers, administrators, and entities outside the school system as requested.
  • Works collaboratively with ESL teachers on a daily basis.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to new ESL teachers.
  • Assist ESL teachers in planning learning experiences around English language learning objectives
  • Assists and maintains schedules for ESL Bilingual Paraprofessionals.
  • Works collaboratively with ESL Bilingual Paraprofessionals on a daily basis.
  • Assists the Parent Manager in the registration process for incoming ESL students.
  • Completes screening process for incoming ESL students through the Welcome Center and in schools as required.
  • Serve on budget committees.
  • Serve in collaboration with the ESL Coordinator as the test coordinator for the ACCESS for ELs state assessment.
  • Performs other duties as requested by ESL Coordinator


QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have an appropriate, valid Alabama Teaching Certificate.

Must have certification in ESL via Praxis or Degree.

Must have three years of experience as an ESL teacher.

Certification in administration preferred.

SALARY: As per State Salary Matrix, depending on degree and experience.

**Applicants selected for certified positions must have undergone an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and been declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.**
