Research assistant needed to provide support for an ongoing research project related to the use of literate activity research methods to study writers and their writing practices both within and outside of academic settings.
Additional Information
This position involves assisting Dr. Walker with two ongoing research projects. The following list describes the activities and requirements for the position:
Activity #1: Conducting interviews with people about their writing/literacy practices.
Requirement: The assistant will need to complete the Human Subjects Research Course through Illinois State University in order to be added as a project investigator (includes reading materials, taking an online exam).
Requirement: Will need to be familiar with (or be able to become familiar with) and correctly use recording and transcription software and hardware to conduct interviews.
Requirement: Will need to be comfortable asking interviews questions and developing follow up questions based on participant's answers.
Activity #2: Organizing audio/video and text files.
Requirements: Labeling and organizing documents according to an agreed-upon system and storing them in an online data storage account.
Activity #3: Literature review work that includes using library databases to search for research and scholarly articles related to the research topic.
Requirement: Using library databases to do comprehensive topic searches.
Requirement: Use Zotero or other citation management system to organize and label articles.
Requirement: Reading and creating summaries of articles related to literate activity research.
Note: While not guaranteed, there is the potential that a research assistant might work on co-authored writing related to this research. So those interested in studying literate practices in various ways would be preferred for the position.
