Job Summary:

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position for an Entry Laboratory Sciences Professional who will work on several NIH funded research studies processing muscle and adipose tissue samples and perform bench laboratory research. Both studies involve micro-dissecting intermuscular adipose tissue from human skeletal muscle biopsies followed by generation of conditioned media to capture the secretome of this tissue. There will also be collection of adipose tissue samples from other sites that will also be used to make conditioned media. These studies require availability for early morning clinical research visits and scheduling flexibility.

Laboratory duties include microdissection of human muscle biopsies, adipose and muscle tissue explant conditioned media generation, western blot analysis, and general laboratory analysis (ELISA) in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes. The general theme for these studies is investigating how skeletal muscle lipids and adipose tissue in skeletal muscle relate to diabetes risk in vivo and in vitro.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.
  • Cell culture experience.
  • Experience running Westerns and/or ELISA.

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques, Western blotting, microscopy, and ELISA.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $45,000 - $50,000.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
