Job Duties

Performs review of a variety of waterworks plans and specifications including water treatment and distribution facilities and determines compliance with the Waterworks Regulations. Coordinates with design engineers and waterworks owners to ensure required changes are completed, and issues construction permits for approved projects. Evaluates and recommends changes on plan review policies and procedures. Serves as a subject matter expect on waterworks facility design. Most activities are handled independently with supervision required for only very large projects or the most complex issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of sanitary engineering pertaining to drinking water; state and
federal laws, rules and regulations governing drinking water; management
practices and principles and administrative and supervisory principles

Ability to make sound engineering decisions; monitor and assess progress and
interpret and apply federal and state laws and regulations; create technical
reports

Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to maintain effective
working relationships with internal staff, officials, engineers and other public
health groups

Additional Considerations

Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) in
Virginia preferred
