HDR Engineering is currently seeking an Environmental Project Manager/Routing and Siting Lead to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Environmental and Power Delivery professionals in Kansas and Missouri.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Environmental Project Manager, we'll count on you to:

Lead renewables and substation siting efforts as well as transmission line routing and siting for projects across Missouri, Kansas, and the upper Midwest. This includes managing diverse Environmental projects in Missouri, Kansas, and beyond. You will likely have prior experience managing and providing technical leadership on small/medium projects and are now ready to take on a broader role overseeing all aspects of larger and more complex projects. Additionally, you will have the desire and drive to grow a high-performing team to help execute these projects.

The candidate must have a high level of confidence in providing environmental and related site development services pertaining to the power industry. The position will include management support for a wide range of project types but will have a focus on transmission line routing and siting, primarily in Kansas and Missouri but also in other Regions as needed. The position will have a client focus - networking and establishing client relationships, developing leads, and strategic thinking in future directions for both our clients and programs. The position requires a person able to visualize, build, and direct a strategic program focused on routing/siting and other related activities. Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Acting as a client manager for select clients.
  • Leading risk management activities for both contract reviews and project deliverables.
  • Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams which could include engineers, attorneys, planners, permitting and environmental specialists, and real estate experts.
  • Performing routing/siting studies and analyses and preparing associated reports.
  • Preparing and monitoring project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Providing advice and direction on state filing requirements.
  • Preparing state-specific siting applications.
  • Preparing state Environmental Quality Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other environmental documents.
  • Travel on average 20% of the time expected.
  • Perform other duties as needed.


The successful candidate will be expected to perform non-routine tasks on multiple projects simultaneously; contribute to researching and writing concise technical documents; assist with diverse projects, innovate, and follow through to completion of all assigned and delegated tasks. This position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team as well as complete tasks within tight deadlines. Applicants must be detail-oriented, organized, effective communicators, and team players with a strong focus on quality and client service.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in combined environmental planning and regulatory experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of project management experience.
  • Self-starter with excellent writing, verbal, and communication skills for a broad range of audiences including regulatory, non-governmental, and public.
  • Ability to think creatively and problem-solve
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and research skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborative as part of a team and foster this of team.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 8 years developing scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for medium to highly complex environmental projects with multi-disciplinary teams and multi-agency efforts with a strong focus on siting and routing studies.
  • Experience preparing applications for submittal to a Public Utilities Commission.
  • Experience preparing and providing expert witness testimony.
  • Experience and understanding of permit requirements in Missouri, Kansas, and/or Illinois.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and research abilities.
  • Ability to effectively support multiple projects ranging in complexity and time sensitivity Identify and resolve issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to interact with design and construction teams in a positive and proactive manner.
