What We Need YOU To Do:

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to join our team as an environmental specialist with the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR) at our Northeast District Office in Twinsburg.

You'll work from the ground up here (in a good way)!

In this position, you'll evaluate the hydrogeologic data of hazardous waste sites to determine the nature and extent of ground water contamination and remedial measures necessary to restore and protect the affected ground water. Sites will include those being remediated through DERR under the Voluntary Action Program, CERCLA, RCRA, and/or state authority.

You'll be reviewing site-specific hydrogeologic reports, ground water sampling plans, water quality data, feasibility studies, and site cleanup plans to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, and policies. As a subject matter expert, you'll provide technical assistance on hydrogeologic matters and regulations to participants in the state's voluntary action program, regulated community, consultants, and governmental officials.

  • Serve as a ground water reviewer for DERR hazardous waste sites and programs.
  • Review and prepare work plans, sampling plans, reports, and technical memoranda for properties undergoing environmental site assessment and cleanup through state and federal programs.
  • Assist in developing rules, siting criteria, and design standards for disposal and waste sites.
  • Provide subject technical assistance within Ohio EPA and to external customers, consultants, and parties.

Qualifications

  • Hydrogeology/Geology experience preferred
  • 12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
  • OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology or hydrogeology &/or other comparable physical or health science field &/or mathematics which included responsibility for conducting compliance monitoring surveys &/or inspections/reviews or investigations, or review of permit applications relative to oil & gas well operations or injection, annular disposal & saltwater injection wells & enhanced recovery projects or coal mining, or solid/hazardous waste sites or industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers, or collecting, compiling & preparing various environmental assessments, evaluations, reports & related documents. Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
  • OR baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science fields, with training to be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
