What We Need You To Do:

Ohio EPA wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Environmental and Financial Assistance (DEFA) at our Central Office in downtown Columbus.

As an environmental specialist, you'll assist with oversight of projects funded through the DEFA's Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF) and Water Supply Revolving Loan Account (WSRLA), as well as federal Special Appropriation Act Projects (SAAP) and other grants. You will provide financial, technical, and administrative assistance to ensure loan applications, agreements, and documents comply with state and federal requirements.

You'll track and review project nominations, schedules, costs, and grant/loan agreements, and periodically visit fund recipient sites to ensure ongoing compliance. You'll work with federal, public, and private entities to coordinate and complete a financing program for awarded projects.

As subject expert, you'll respond to inquiries on financial and procedural issues and help applicants prepare their funding request documentation. You'll identify potential applicants and provide information to promote the division's environmental assistance programs.

Here are the basics:
  • Assist with DEFA projects funded through WPCLF, WSRLA, federal SAAP and other grants.
  • Track project nominations, schedules, costs and grant/loan agreements, and post-award requirements.
  • Visit funded project sites to ensure program compliance.
  • Promote DEFA's assistance programs and assist interested parties and applicants with program inquiries.

Qualifications
  • 7 yrs. relevant programmatic exp.
  • OR combination of education in environmentally focused discipline or other job-related discipline & specific programmatic experience equaling 7 yrs.
  • OR completion of undergraduate core coursework in environmentally-related discipline; AND 3 yrs. relevant programmatic exp.
  • OR 2 yrs. relevant programmatic experience as Environmental Supervisor, 85865.
  • OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
  • Note: For all positions involved in field work, applicants must be able to provide own transportation. New employees in OEPA's solid waste program, excluding those in the solid waste planning unit, must obtain a sanitarian-in-training certificate during their probationary period.
