Role Overview

The Equipment Support Technician supports preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various production and assembly equipment, including CNC machines, at the Farmington site. The technician will have extensive knowledge of machine rebuild practices, preventative maintenance, and teardown/rebuild methods used on IMI's machinery. The main goal is to maximize equipment and machinery uptime and lifespan.

Work Environment: On-site (Farmington, CT)

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and perform preventive maintenance procedures on production and assembly equipment, including CNC machines (Lathes, Mills, etc).
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical breakdowns, minimizing downtime.
  • Assist in decisions on contractor/vendor service needs for machinery and equipment.
  • Work with suppliers to procure components and services cost-effectively.
  • Identify and maintain the correct spare parts inventories.
  • Oversee on-site activities of contractors for machinery and equipment troubleshooting and repair.
  • Fabricate components to print tolerances, ensuring accuracy of fit and function when feasible.
  • Contribute ideas for cost savings related to machine design and maintenance improvements.
  • Select and develop reliable vendors for outsourcing machine components and tools.
  • Collaborate with other IMI Americas operations on equipment technical support issues.
  • Document changes to machines and ensure drawings are updated.
  • Participate in site Kaizen and other related Lean events and activities as requested.
  • Lead site Total Productive Maintenance activities to reduce downtime, changeover time, minor stops, speed losses, and scrap.
  • Provide training to operators and other technicians on proper maintenance procedures and safe machine operation.
  • Proactively suggest improvements to equipment and processes to enhance productivity and safety.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and any issues encountered.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to implement new technologies and upgrades to existing equipment.
  • Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns and work to resolve issues as quickly as possible.
  • Comply with OSHA and IMI health, safety, and environment requirements.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Critical Competencies for Success
  • Ability to multi-task
  • High School degree or equivalent
  • 8+ years of general work experience in machinery and equipment maintenance and repair, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic MS Office Suite (Word and Outlook)
  • OSHA industrial safety certification preferred
