The role you'll contribute:

The Office of Design and Construction (ODC) Estimator is responsible for reviewing conceptual and detailed cost estimates for preconstruction projects of all types and sizes. Participates in owner update meetings, preconstruction scheduling, cost control, and value analysis from conceptual through construction phases of projects. Primarily responsible for reviewing change order requests for scope of work, correct quantities, pricing and contract alignment. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

The value you'll bring to the team:

  • Collaborates to create and update a historical cost database utilizing existing cost information on completed projects. Researches current construction means/methods/materials and associated pricing to ensure that costing submitted by both General and Sub-Contractors is both fair and within industry standards. Generates conceptual estimates based on program or department needs.
  • Collaborates with project managers on estimating construction projects, value engineering and pricing issues. Reviews plans and specifications for design completeness, coordination and constructability.
  • Executes take-offs of construction documents, inputs take-offs into computer spreadsheet. Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work. Accounts for all required resources, including labor, materials, taxes, fees and time.
  • Monitors subcontractor activities to guarantee compliance with project budget and specification requirements and administers RFIs and Change Orders. Reviews change order requests for scope of work, correct quantities and pricing.
  • Ensures safety requirements including OSHA regulations, and the costs to provide a safe working environment.
  • Participates in internal and/or external training programs, staying current and compliant on application or technical skills applicable to assigned duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the Design & Construction department.


Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
  • Ten years of experience estimating in both hard bid and negotiation work


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED :
    • Seven to ten years of healthcare construction estimating experience
    • OSHA safety training, minimum 10-hour course completion


LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED :

    • Certificate in Construction Estimating or related field
    • General Contractor's License


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED :
  • Highly competent in specific estimating discipline with strong mathematics skill
  • Detail-oriented, have excellent organizational skills and be a proficient communicator both orally and written
  • Strong understanding of building construction with the ability to review plans, drawings, and specifications, and produce a written report of the findings
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel abilities
  • Self-motivated requiring minimal management
  • Ability to multitask including management of contract employees, consultants, vendors and staff


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED :
    • Knowledge of Florida's construction industry and practices
    • Knowledge of both labor and materials costs and trends
    • Maintains good working relationships with both General Contractors and Subcontractors
