The Office of University Development's primary purpose is to build philanthropic relationships that engage alumni, donors, students, faculty and the community in supporting the University's mission. These efforts include working closely with the donors, governing boards, alumni, friends, community members, foundations and corporations to increase private giving to the University. The Office of University Development is within the division of University Advancement.
Primary Purpose of Position
Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for University Development and working in close collaboration with members of the University Development team, Deans and other University leadership, the Executive Director of Development will manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors and will be responsible for managing development officers and the processes, metrics and reporting that will lead to successful fundraising and capital campaign planning. The Executive Director of Development will also collaborate to produce and examine reports related to fundraising performance and core development metrics to effectively measure fundraising progress to ensure preparedness for fundraising initiatives and a successful comprehensive campaign.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Executive Director of Development will manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and will plan and manage a highly collaborative, research-based integrated fundraising plan designed to elevate the University's fundraising leading up to and throughout the university's next campaign.

The Executive Director of Development reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for University Development and collaborates with the university's development leadership to create metrics, trend analysis, and reports for the division and the campaign. The Executive Director manages the performance of a team of gift officers to ensure fundraising goals are met and exceeded.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • At least six years of experience in institutional advancement.
  • Must possess knowledge of best practices and industry standards.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Work experience in higher education.
  • Experience in managing a professional organization including personnel and fiscal management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with data and create metrics and reports that maximize fundraising.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate programs and interact successfully with faculty, academic leaders, and staff.
  • Strong collaborative leadership skills and ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • A high degree of energy, creativity, and initiative.
  • Ability to help shape still emerging, innovative operating models and thrive with ambiguity.
  • Ability to interact with high level individuals, maintaining a high level of professionalism, judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proposal writing and public speaking.
  • Capable of managing competing priorities and multiple deadlines, and seeing projects through from beginning to end.
  • The ability to travel and participate in evening and weekend activities.
  • The ability to authentically and enthusiastically represent the mission, vision, and values of UNC Charlotte and contribute to its diverse and inclusive campus culture as a strong and compelling advocate.
