Description & Requirements

You will join a team to actualize projects with Forvis Mazars clients in the nonprofit industry from planning and procedures performed to the writing of final documents to the client. You will participate in client meetings, internal meetings, and project development. Projects could include grants management, accounting services, consulting, forecasting/projections, outsourced/interim controller duties, and overall solution-finding for Forvis Mazars clients related to their financial systems, processes, and records.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for candidates who possess strong attention to detail and sensitivity to timelines. Devotion to client service is essential, including consistently positive interactions with clients and the demonstration of effective communication and human relations techniques. The successful candidate will be a proactive worker with excellent project management and time management experience and knows when and how to keep the engagement executive apprised of client status and issues that need to be escalated.

How you will contribute:

  • Working on a variety of financial, accounting, and compliance projects, with a primary focus on the nonprofit industry
  • Overseeing overall project management including planning, monitoring, and completing consulting projects in the areas of process improvement, operational assessments, compliance, and financial reporting
  • Assisting with outsourced accounting services including:
    • o General ledger and financial statement preparation
    • o Monthly and year-end closing assistance
    • o Account and bank reconciliations
    • o Audit preparation services
  • Participating in and guiding projects evaluating Federal and State grant compliance and other compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Performing operational and financial assessments of the client's grants management compliance and the finance department's processes, policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Assisting with the development of policies and procedures
  • Guiding engagement relationships with appropriate levels of client interaction
  • Stewarding calendar/meetings for client and team interactions
  • Performing industry and technical research for the development of new client solutions
  • Utilizing technology and best practices to improve internal processes
  • Assisting in directing, developing, and coaching professional staff

We are looking for people with Forward Vision and:

  • Aptitude to communicate both up and downstream to team staff and exercise judgment in determining client interactions
  • The experience to steward and prioritize multiple client projects, including monitoring project time budgets and consistently meeting or exceeding agreed-upon timelines
  • The experience to professionally write and communicate solutions including but not limited to client meetings, internal meetings, and projects
  • Advanced computer experience and the aptitude to learn new software related to the accounting function of an organization
  • High attention to detail as well as strong investigative skills
  • The ability to travel on occasion

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 2 years or more of accounting and/or consulting experience with another public accounting firm
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Accounting or a related field
  • CPA license or eligibility to take the CPA exam
  • Accounting and/or consulting experience within the nonprofit industry
  • Experience with QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online, Financial Edge, Intacct, bill.com, Expensify, Experience with Raisers Edge, Microsoft Dynamics, AbilaMIP, NetSuite, Xero, SAGE 50
