Introduction

The State of Wisconsin, Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is hiring a Facilities Maintenance Specialist- Advanced position. This position will be based / headquartered out of one of the following counties and will serve the entire Area 6, ten-county area: Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Walworth, and Washington.

The selected location that the incumbent will be based out of is depended upon applicant preference and space availability.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Buildings/Grounds Superintendent, the Facilities Maintenance Specialist- Advanced performs maintenance and repairs to building mechanical equipment including overhead doors. The position performs advanced level electrical and plumbing maintenance and repairs and also performs maintenance and repair to HVAC units and controls, steam lines, valves and associated equipment. The Facilities Maintenance Specialist- Advanced independently troubleshoots, performs diagnostic procedures and determines alternatives for repair or solves the requirement directly. The position does maintenance, repairs and some small remodeling projects to the building structural components, grounds, and pavement areas. The Facilities Maintenance Specialist- Advanced may serve as a lead worker over personnel assigned to assist with these activities. In all activities, the use and coordination of contractors may be required. Work will be conducted within the 10-county area which includes the following counties: Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Walworth, and Washington.

Salary Information

Starting pay is $25.57/ hr.

This position is in the 03-13 pay schedule/range. A 12-month probation will be required.

This position generally works Monday through Friday. The exact schedule of this full-time position will be determined upon hire.

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

Job Details

This position has the following conditions of employment:
  • Required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be physically able to lift and move objects in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to operate lift equipment and have no limitations for working in high areas.
  • All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to JFHQ in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.
  • In order to gain access to the military facilities and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check.

Qualifications

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for this position will have most of the following:
  • Experience / training in using hand and power tools.
  • Experience / training in commercial or industrial maintenance.
  • Experience / training in commercial or industrial plumbing.
  • Experience / training in commercial or industrial electrical.
  • Experience / training in commercial or industrial heating and cooling systems.
  • Formal education and/ or degree earned in electromechanics or related field.
